About

# Infrastructure, cloud and software, for twenty-five years.

I've spent my career on both ends of the cable: in the data centre, and in the basement with a drill. That range is the whole point.

I started in 2000 with Lake Shore Services, building, selling and repairing computers for homes and small businesses. By 2009 that had grown into consulting on networks, security and websites. The same year I went deep into web hosting, and over the next decade I moved from operations to platform architecture to leading product and engineering for hosting companies serving hundreds of thousands of customers.

At GreenGeeks I ran operations teams of more than a hundred people and wrote the automation the platform depended on. At A2 Hosting I built the Platform Engineering team from scratch. Since 2021 I've been Head of Product & Engineering at Kualo, responsible for strategy and a globally distributed engineering team.

The consultancy never stopped. It just got more useful, because the problems a small business faces (bad Wi-Fi, a camera system nobody can log into, a website on hosting nobody remembers paying for, a quote that feels too high) are problems I've seen at scale, and they usually have a smaller answer than the one being sold.

The practice is built around three things: **Infrastructure, Cloud and Software.** The hosting side has been its own company, [DrivenHost](https://drivenhost.com), since 2004. In 2026, after years of consulting, I opened [RelayPoint Technologies](https://relaypoint.ca) to do the hands-on installation and support work properly, with a shop and a team behind it, so that this site can stay what it was always meant to be: a place to hire me for judgment.

I live in Ontario, Canada. Outside of work there's a home with entirely too much cable in the walls.
